Marina Caneve questions the place of humans on nature
For her research project On the ground among the animals, Marina Caneve draws attention to the Natura 2000 network of ecological corridors promoted by the European Union. These essential tools aim to preserve biodiversity and achieve a better integration of its challenges in human activities.
The photographer turned her attention to the bridges purposefully designed for animals to cross over engineered barriers such as motorways or other roads. Multiple fences and security cameras cast doubt on the animals’ apparent freedom of movement. Marina Caneve’s photographs examine the contradictory links between policies, building infrastructure, freedom of movement, and the conservation of ecosystems. She ultimately questions the power humanity exerts over nature.
