Winner of the Prix Elysée 2023, Debi Cornwall unveils her critical work led in the United States
Conceptual documentary artist Debi Cornwall’s project, titled Model Citizens, examines the staging of reality and citizenship performance in the United States.
She visited museums, exhibitions, trade fairs and civilian training sites in this divided and militarised country and took photos raising a number of questions: How are fictions spun, sold, and embraced to prepare people for–or divert their attention from–civic realities in a society in the midst of a never-ending violent crisis?
