A selection of images will be presented for the duration of the exhibition.

Animal Model explores two centuries of photography and our way of looking at animals. From scientific photography to contemporary approaches, the exhibition brings together works that show how photographers have represented, imagined, and questioned our relationship with living beings.

How to participate?
Upload your photograph using the button above. The image size must not exceed 20 MB.
Your image must depict at least one animal. This can be a dog, cat, bird, fish, rodent, or any other pet.
Each participant may submit several images.
By submitting your photograph, you confirm that you hold the necessary rights to it and accept the terms of participation below.
Submission deadline
Photographs may be submitted until 1 April 2027 at 11:59 pm.
Images received after this date cannot be considered.
Image selection
Photographs will be reviewed and selected by the Animal Model exhibition team.
Selection will be based on criteria including the image's relevance to the theme of the call, its photographic interest, originality, quality, and its ability to engage in dialogue with the exhibition. Attention may also be given to the diversity of animals, photographic approaches, and perspectives represented.
Selection is carried out independently by the exhibition team. Due to the number of photographs received and the constraints of the exhibition, not all submitted images can be presented.
Participation therefore does not guarantee that the image will be presented in the exhibition. Selection decisions are not subject to any obligation of individual justification.
Presentation of the photographs
Selected photographs may be presented in the Photo Elysée exhibition spaces for the duration of the Animal Model exhibition, as well as on the museum's communication materials intended to present or promote the call for participation and the exhibition.
Photographs may in particular be used on the Photo Elysée website, its social media channels, newsletters, printed materials, press kits and press releases, as well as on communication materials related to the exhibition.
No commercial use independent of the exhibition or of Photo Elysée's activities will be made of the photographs as part of this call for participation.
Before submitting your image
Please ensure that:
- you are the author of the photograph or hold all the rights necessary to submit it to us and authorize its use;
- the photograph does not infringe the rights of third parties;
- any identifiable person appearing in the photograph has given their consent for its publication and use under the conditions set out in this call;
- if a minor is identifiable in the image, the necessary authorization from their legal representative(s) has been obtained;
- the photograph does not contain illegal, discriminatory, hateful, violent, defamatory, pornographic content, or content that violates a person's dignity;
- the photograph does not contain content whose use or publication could engage the liability of Photo Elysée.
Rights to your photograph
You retain ownership of your rights to your photograph.
By participating, you nonetheless grant Photo Elysée a non-exclusive, free, worldwide license, valid for the duration necessary for the uses provided for in this call for participation, allowing it to reproduce, display, communicate to the public, technically adapt, and distribute the photograph as part of the Animal Model exhibition, its presentation, documentation, and communication.
This authorization includes in particular the use of the photograph on Photo Elysée's digital and printed materials, its social media, website, newsletters, press kits and press releases, as well as communication materials directly related to the exhibition.
These uses do not entitle you to any remuneration, compensation, or other financial consideration.
Photo Elysée may make the technical adaptations necessary for these uses, including cropping, resizing, format changes, or integration into a layout, without altering the content of the image in a way that would compromise its integrity.
Where possible and relevant, the author's name may be mentioned alongside the photograph.
Personal data
The data provided during participation, necessary for managing the call for participation, is processed by Photo Elysée in order to manage submissions, contact the individuals concerned, select and present the photographs, and ensure communication related to the exhibition.
This data will not be used for any purposes incompatible with those stated above.
The data is retained for the period necessary for these purposes and in accordance with applicable legal obligations.

Contest Rules
Terms and conditions of participation
Article 1 — Organizer
Photo Elysée, the cantonal museum of photography, a museum of the State of Vaud managed by the Plateforme 10 Foundation (hereinafter "the Organizer"), is organizing a call for participation as part of the Animal Model exhibition.
This call aims to gather pet photographs that may be presented as part of the exhibition and its communications.
This is not a contest: no ranking, prize, or financial reward will be awarded to participants.
Participation is free and does not require any purchase.
Article 2 — Conditions of participation
The call is open to any individual who is at least 18 years old at the time of participation.
Minors may participate only with the prior authorization of their legal representative. The Organizer reserves the right to request proof of this authorization and, failing that, to exclude the participation in question.
Employees of the Plateforme 10 Foundation and individuals directly involved in organizing and selecting the images may be excluded from participation.
Participation implies full and unconditional acceptance of these terms.
Article 3 — Terms of participation
Participation is exclusively via the upload form available on the dedicated call-for-participation page.
The photograph must depict at least one animal and be submitted in the format requested by the Organizer.
Photographs must be submitted before 1 April 2027 at 11:59 pm.
Any photograph received after this deadline may be rejected.
The Organizer reserves the right to disregard any submission that is incomplete, illegible, technically unusable, or that does not comply with these terms.
Article 4 — Copyright and participant's warranty
By submitting a photograph, the participant declares and warrants:
that they are the author of the photograph or hold all the rights and authorizations necessary to submit it to the Organizer and authorize the uses provided for in these terms; that the photograph is free of any third-party rights that could prevent or limit the authorized uses; that they have not assigned or granted to a third party any rights incompatible with the authorizations granted to the Organizer; that the use of the photograph under the conditions set out in these rules does not infringe copyright, related rights, personality rights, trademarks, image rights, or any other third-party rights; that any authorization necessary for the publication of the photograph has been obtained prior to its submission.
The participant retains ownership of their copyright in the photograph. Participation does not entail a transfer of ownership of the work to the Organizer.
Article 5 — Persons depicted in the photographs
The participant undertakes not to submit any photograph depicting an identifiable person without having first obtained their authorization for the uses provided for in these rules.
Where a minor is identifiable in the photograph, the participant warrants that they have obtained authorization from their legal representative(s).
The participant is solely responsible for obtaining these authorizations.
In the event of a claim by a person depicted in a photograph, the participant undertakes to provide, at the Organizer's request, the information or evidence needed to establish that authorization was indeed obtained.
The Organizer reserves the right to withdraw a photograph from the selection or from distribution where a necessary authorization is lacking or is contested.
Article 6 — Authorization to use the photographs
By participating in the call, the participant grants the Organizer a non-exclusive, free, worldwide license, for the duration necessary for the uses provided for in these rules, allowing the Organizer to reproduce, display, communicate to the public, and distribute the photograph as part of the Animal Model exhibition, its documentation, and its communication.
This authorization includes in particular the ability to use the photograph:
in the Photo Elysée exhibition spaces; on the Photo Elysée website; on Photo Elysée's social media; in Photo Elysée's newsletters; in press kits and press releases; in printed and digital publications related to the exhibition; on communication materials intended to promote the exhibition and the call for participation; in Photo Elysée's institutional communications directly related to the exhibition.
This authorization is granted free of charge and does not entitle the participant to any remuneration or compensation.
It does not constitute a transfer of copyright.
The Organizer is authorized to make the technical adaptations necessary for using the photograph across its various materials, including cropping, resizing, compression, format changes, and integration into a graphic layout.
These adaptations must not intentionally distort the photograph or compromise its integrity.
Where possible and relevant, the author's name may be associated with the photograph.
Article 7 — Use by third parties
The Organizer may transmit selected photographs to its technical service providers and partners directly involved in the production, printing, distribution, or communication of the exhibition, only to the extent necessary for these activities.
These third parties are not authorized to use the photographs for their own purposes.
The Organizer may also share the photographs with the media as part of the promotion and coverage of the exhibition.
Article 8 — Selection
Photographs are reviewed and selected by the Animal Model exhibition team.
Selection is based on several criteria, including:
the relevance of the photograph to the theme of the call; its photographic interest; its originality or distinctive character; its technical and visual quality; its ability to engage in dialogue with the exhibition; the diversity of animals, approaches, and perspectives represented; the technical, scenographic, and editorial constraints related to the presentation of the images.
As the number of photographs received may exceed the exhibition's presentation capacity, the Organizer cannot guarantee that all submitted images will be presented.
Selection is at the discretion of the exhibition team and is not subject to any obligation of individual justification.
The Organizer reserves the right not to select a photograph without having to state a reason.
Article 9 — Excluded photographs
The Organizer reserves the right to exclude any photograph that:
does not depict an animal; has manifestly illegal content; contains hateful, racist, sexist, discriminatory, or defamatory statements or depictions; contains pornographic or sexually explicit content; violates a person's dignity or rights; infringes intellectual property rights or the rights of third parties; whose author does not hold the necessary rights; depicts an identifiable person without appropriate authorization; whose content could damage the image or reputation of the Organizer; or whose file is technically unusable.
The Organizer also reserves the right to exclude any submission resulting from fraud, attempted fraud, identity theft, or any other maneuver aimed at circumventing these terms.
Article 10 — Participant's liability
The participant assumes full responsibility for the content of the submitted photograph and indemnifies the Organizer against any claim, demand, action, or proceeding brought by a third party, resulting in particular from an infringement of copyright, related rights, image rights, personality rights, trademark rights, or any other right attached to the photograph.
In the event of a third-party claim concerning a photograph, the Organizer may immediately suspend or discontinue its use and remove the photograph from its materials, without this giving rise to any compensation for the participant.
The participant undertakes to cooperate in good faith with the Organizer to enable the handling of any claim related to the photograph.
Article 11 — Retention and withdrawal of photographs
Selected photographs may be retained by the Organizer for the period necessary for their presentation, documentation, and the communication uses provided for in these terms.
Photographs not selected may be deleted after the selection process ends, subject to legal retention obligations or the need to retain certain information to handle a potential claim.
Submitted files are not intended to be sold or used as independent works by the Organizer.
Article 12 — Withdrawal of authorization
The participant may request the withdrawal of their photograph by contacting the Organizer at the address indicated on the call-for-participation page.
The Organizer will review the request and may remove the photograph from its digital materials where this is technically possible and legally required.
Withdrawal of an authorization does not, however, make it possible to recover or eliminate copies already printed, distributed, or published before the request was received, nor reproductions made by third parties independently of the Organizer.
Article 13 — Personal data
Personal data collected as part of the call for participation is processed by the Organizer in accordance with applicable Swiss data protection legislation.
It is used in particular to:
register and manage submissions; contact participants; manage the selection of photographs; organize their presentation; ensure communication related to the call and the exhibition; manage any requests, disputes, or claims.
Personal data is not used for purposes incompatible with these purposes.
The data is retained for the period necessary for these purposes and in accordance with applicable legal obligations.
Data subjects have the rights provided for by applicable data protection legislation.

Article 14 — Organizer's liability
The Organizer implements reasonable means to ensure the smooth running of the call for participation.
However, it cannot be held liable for technical difficulties beyond its control, including internet network interruptions, failure of the submission form, issues with file transmission or storage, technical incompatibility, or any event of force majeure.
The Organizer does not guarantee that every submitted photograph will be retained, selected, exhibited, or published.
The Organizer reserves the right to modify, suspend, extend, or cancel the call for participation where circumstances require, in particular for technical, organizational, or legal reasons, or in the event of force majeure.
Article 15 — Modification of terms
The Organizer reserves the right to modify these terms where necessary, in particular for legal, technical, or organizational reasons.
Any substantial modification will be published on the dedicated call-for-participation page.
Article 16 — Acceptance of terms
Submitting a photograph via the participation form implies reading and accepting these terms.
By submitting the form, the participant confirms in particular:
that they are 18 years of age or hold authorization from their legal representative; that they hold the necessary rights to the photograph or hold the required authorizations; that they have obtained the necessary authorizations from identifiable persons in the photograph; that they authorize Photo Elysée to use the photograph under the conditions defined by these rules; that they have read the information regarding the processing of their personal data.
Article 17 — Applicable law
These terms are governed by Swiss law, subject to applicable mandatory provisions.
Any dispute will be handled in accordance with the jurisdictional rules provided for by applicable Swiss law.
