The exhibition Jan Groover. Laboratoire des formes, presented at Photo Elysée from September 18, 2019 to January 5, 2020, opens its doors in San Sebastian, at the Kutxa Kultur Artegunea, from July 21 to November 12,2023.
Photo Elysée, which regularly presents exhibitions abroad, has just successfully closed the doors on its exhibition dedicated to photographer René Burri at the Taipei Fine Arts Museum in Taipei, attracting over 150,000 visitors. The Jan Groover exhibition has already traveled to the MAMbo Museo d'Arte Moderna di Bologna (2021-2022) and the Fondation Henri Cartier-Bresson in Paris (2022-2023).
The exhibition looks back at the entire body of work of Jan Groover (1943-2012), an American-born artist whose photographic holdings joined the Photo Elysée collections in 2017. For almost forty years, Jan Groover developed his work across two continents, from his hometown of Plainfield in New Jersey to Montpon-Ménestérol in France, where his last studio was located, while maintaining New York as a constant center of gravity.
