Photo Elysée joins the FUTURES photography network!

"The ideas and values of supporting, encouraging, and empowering long-term artists, whether emerging or mid-career, are at the heart of our mission and mindset," explains Nathalie Herschdorfer, who welcomes the museum's integration into the FUTURES Photography network, a European platform that brings together a global community of contemporary photographers.

Since 2017, FUTURES has been committed to promoting early and mid-career photographers by offering them the opportunity to integrate into a network of professionals, markets, and audiences. During 2023, FUTURES and Pro Helvetia have worked closely together to enable three Swiss photographic institutions to benefit from financial support over the period 2023 to 2025, with the aim of fostering the development and vitality of the photography economy by bringing new talent to the fore. Thanks to this platform, Photo Elysée will be able to offer selected artists the opportunity to join the FUTURES network, providing them with valuable opportunities for growth and enrichment.

The two artists selected by Photo Elysée for FUTURES in 2023 are Tamara Janes and Florian Amoser. This choice reflects a general sociological fact representative of the artistic field today: the hybridity of creative professions and lifelong learning practices. This means that too narrow a definition of what it means to be an emerging artist does not reflect the realities of the lives of many creative people today. On a second level, these previous experiences – at least from our point of view – have influenced the attitudes and methods of these two artistic positions and the way they approach, analyze, and help reshape how we may perceive contemporary conditions and the nature of the image.

This collaboration between Photo Elysée and FUTURES promises to be rich in discoveries, including participation in their annual event at the Robert Capa Center for Contemporary Photography in Budapest in 2023, as well as a brand-new international photography festival, FOTOGRAFIA. FESTIVAL INTERNAZIONALE DI TORINO, to be held in Turin from May 2024.

Photo Elysée expresses its gratitude to FUTURES and Pro Helvetia for their trust and support, enabling the museum to promote and encourage artists over the long term.
